Internet Speed

Here’s my internet speed and a few tips on getting your full speed:

If the site offers mirrors, choose one that’s closest to where you live. For example, use “http://www.google.com.my” instead of “http://www.google.com”.

When downloading things, I personally discourage anyone from using XunLei(Thunder). It’s a monster that sucks up your bandwidth like a plane using fuel. Use some other download manager like FlashGet and use a proper BitTorrent client to download torrents like Azureus Vuze or uTorrent.

When downloading large files, I recomend you to use download managers. They can improve your download speed. Becareful not to overload the server though, some site admins don’t like people “raping” their servers. If you are downloading small files, just use normal download. It’s not worth it to use a download manager for a 1MB file.

When downloading through BitTorrent, please turn data encryption on. This will scramble then files you are downloading because TMNet checks and slows down BitTorrent downloads on purpose. Turn encryption on to at least RC4 and make sure to set it so that other clients that don’t support encryption can also connect. Also, remember to seed after downloading as that is proper ettiquete when using BitTorrent. Give and people will give you back.

That’s it for now! I might write more later.
